Employment Opportunities

For Job Seekers

With so much growth in our region, there are a wide range of employment opportunities available to skilled workers. A number of agencies are available to help you sort through the possibilities and, if necessary, connect you to training to expand your skills.

Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation , in partnership with  the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR), provides workforce and training services to Anne Arundel County citizens and businesses. AAWDC operates six One-Stop Career Centers throughout Anne Arundel County that offer job seeker services including:

  • Job Search Assistance - Includes job referral and placement assistance, Federal, state and local job listings, access to online job listings, prescreening, pre-employment skills assessment, and job searches in the Maryland Workforce Exchange.
  • Job Fairs – AAWDC, with partners including Fort Meade and Anne Arundel Community College, hosts at least seven large job fairs each year. Smaller recruitment events are held throughout the year in the One-Stop Career Centers. In partnership with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, AAWDC facilitates job fairs at each of the County’s public high schools in the spring to connect businesses and summer job seekers.
  • Career Development and Computer Skills Workshops – Include Interviewing Techniques, Résumé Preparation, Basic Keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Resource Center – The One-Stop Career Centers maintain a library of software, books, publications and other literature to support job search activities. Job seekers also have access to computers, faxes, copiers and phones to prepare résumés and cover letters, search for and apply to job openings.
  • Career Guidance – Information on current labor market information and future projections, occupation and wage trends; and interest, skills and aptitude assessments.
  • Job Clubs – Informal groups that offer a forum for sharing information and accessing local employment resources. No registration is required and anyone is welcome to attend any of these groups. Groups meeting in a church usually begin with a prayer. Most groups have e-mailing lists that share useful and timely information for job seekers in between meeting times.
  • Reemployment Assistance - Programs for employees facing downsizing include orientation to One-Stop services, career development workshops, individual career coaching and career assessment, job search seminars, resume preparation and retraining programs.
  • Training and Development – Assessment of training eligibility and qualifications, training and education information, apprenticeship information, short-term training including GED preparation and job skills training for eligible individuals.
  • Supportive Services – Through partnerships with other agencies, AAWDC provides information and referrals to a variety of supportive services.
  • Unemployment Insurance – To file for unemployment insurance, go to www.mdunemployment.com.
