Transportation
Western Anne Arundel County has the good fortune to be bordered by a number of major highways, making auto access throughout the area easy. However, we are also served by numerous commuter options, with more being developed in preparation for continuing expansion at Ft. Meade. Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport
BWI is one of three major airports serving the Baltimore-Washington region. The airport is located 9 miles south of Baltimore City in Anne Arundel County and regularly receives awards for its accessibility and customer satisfaction. MTA Commuter Bus Service
Maryland has 40 Park & Ride lots where commuters to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. can leave their car and board a coach bus to their destination. Local routes include Laurel to Baltimore and Davidsonville to Washington, DC. Additional routes are proposed from Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland to Ft. Central Maryland Regional Transit
Central Maryland Regional Transit (CMRT) provides regional, inter-county public transportation within the City of Laurel and in Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George’s counties. CMRT provides regional fixed-route bus service – Connect-A-Ride Routes – as well as paratransit service for seniors and persons with disabilities. CMRT is also creating a clearinghouse for transportation services through a Jobs Access Reverse Commute (JARC) grant for five counties in central Maryland

Light Rail
The Light Rail is a street level rail system that travels from Linthicum/BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, through Baltimore City, to Hunt Valley seven days a week. There are 32 station stops along this barrier-free system. Purchase a ticket from the station vending machines and press the button on the outside of the train to gain access. MARC Train
The MARC commuter rail operates two lines between Baltimore and Washington, DC’s Union Station that serve West Anne Arundel County. The Penn Line has stops at BWI Airport and Odenton, while the Camden Line stops at Dorsey Station (off Rt. 100) and Savage Station (near MD 32). Rideshare, Carpool & Vanpool Coordination
The BWI Business Partnership, through the Commuter Connections web site (www.commuterconnections.org), offers
an online ride-matching system for travelers in the greater metro Washington area, including Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, and other regions within the state. Developed by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, this system is powered by Google Maps API and provides comprehensive information about transit options, telework centers, and other necessary information for the regional commuter. For employees of member organizations who use car/van pools or public transit to
get to and from work at least three (3) days a week, the BWI Business Partnership also offers an Emergency Ride Home Program that will provide transportation home in the event of an emergency.
Metro Subway (
Baltimore, MD)
MTA Maryland operates a 14-station subway line from Johns Hopkins Hospital to Owings Mills, MD. Commuters from West County can access this system by taking Light Rail or the MARC train to Baltimore City. For a current map and fare information, visit www.mtamaryland.com/services/subway/.
Metrorail (Washington, D.C.)
