Education

Schools play an important role in deciding where to live for parents of children aged 18 and under. Western Anne Arundel County is fortunate to be home to three of the top 800 public high schools in the entire nation, as ranked in 2008 by Newsweek Magazine.  The elementary and middle schools feeding these high schools are equally high-quality institutions.

To better understand public school rankings in the state of Maryland, visit www.mdreportcard.org for the current Maryland Report Card.  The Maryland Report Card is a collection of data on school performance provided by the Maryland State Department of Education, and includes the school’s adequate yearly progress attainment, assessment scores, and student demographics.

For those who prefer to other options for their children’s education, there are a wide variety of private and charter schools for students of all ages and abilities. The county also has one of the top community colleges in the nation.
